Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, a candidate for governor of South Carolina, released the following statement after today’s Supreme Court decision weakening a key protection of the Voting Rights Act:
“This is about fundamental fairness and self-government. South Carolinians are tired of politicians rigging the system to protect their power. We need maps drawn by the people’s elected representatives that honor our conservative principles and put power back where it belongs — with the voters.”
