Nick Uricchio this week announced his candidacy for South Carolina House District 115, running as a Democrat to succeed State Representative Spencer Wetmore, who is retiring at the end of the year. House District 115 includes portions of James Island and Johns Island, as well as Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island.
Uricchio (pictured) is a lifelong resident of James Island and Folly Beach and graduate of James Island High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Coastal Carolina University and his law degree from the Charleston School of Law.
In 2019, Uricchio joined the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Charleston County as an Assistant Solicitor, where he prosecuted violent crimes. In May 2023, he joined the law firm Query, Sautter & Uricchio, LLC, where his practice focuses on helping everyday people navigate difficult legal challenges.
Uricchio said he is committed to continuing Rep. Wetmore’s legacy of exceptional constituent service and strong advocacy for the Lowcountry.
“Our communities contribute a significant amount of money to Columbia, and we deserve to receive more in return,” Uricchio stated. “This requires real investments in safer roads and bridges, meaningful actions to reduce flooding and improve drainage, and initiatives to lower the cost of living for our constituents to keep the Lowcountry affordable for our children’s future. We also need leaders who are willing to oppose irresponsible development that threatens the unique character of our islands."
Uricchio also emphasized his commitment to protecting democratic institutions and individual freedoms.
“At a time when authoritarianism is becoming more visible at the federal level, it’s critical that state leaders stand firm,” he said. “I will vote to protect our constitutional freedoms, strengthen voting rights, and restore women’s reproductive choices. I will also be a strong supporter of public schools and local law enforcement.”
Uricchio and his wife, Morgan, live on James Island and are active members of the community.
House District 115 has been represented by Rep. Wetmore since her special election victory in 2020 and is considered a Democratic-leaning district.
