Benjamin Brown, a Mount Pleasant area firefighter and paramedic, has officially filed to run for the South Carolina House of Representatives in District 80 as a Democrat, challenging incumbent Rep. Kathy Landing (R).
"I've responded to emergencies in this community for years, and I’ve seen the consequences of unchecked traffic, rising medical bills, and families being priced out of Mt. Pleasant. I'm running because it's time to restore trust by actually solving problems in Columbia."
Brown's campaign said its priorities include:
- Infrastructure and Transportation: "Addressing traffic congestion, improving road safety, and planning for smart growth so Mount Pleasant remains livable and connected"
- Healthcare: "Making healthcare affordable and accessible, protecting people with pre-existing conditions, and expanding behavioral health services"
- Housing and Affordability: "South Carolina ranks near the bottom in the nation in per capita spending on public employees and education. Brown will fight to reallocate existing state budget resources to prioritize public employees and education"
