Following the results of the Democratic primary, Mayra Rivera-Vázquez issued a concession statement congratulating her opponents on their hard-fought campaigns and thanking the volunteers, voters, and supporters:
"Last night did not end the way we hoped, but we fought all the way to the finish with courage, determination, and a deep belief that our community deserves better.
"I want to congratulate Mac (Deford) and Nancy (Lacore) on their hard-fought campaigns as they head into the runoff. I also want to congratulate the other candidates who stepped up and gave Democratic voters a strong field to choose from. Running for office is not easy, and every one of them put in real work.
"To everyone who came out to an event, knocked on doors, made phone calls, boosted posts, shared our message, and told your friends about the new American dream, thank you. We would not have come this far without your time, your energy, and your belief in what we were building together. I am deeply grateful.
"And to everyone who voted for me, thank you for your trust. We did not win this time, but the fight is not over. I entered this race because I believe we need real representation in Washington and a real fighter for working people and families like ours.
"We need a representative who will commit fully and without condition to universal child care and universal pre-K, raising the minimum wage, cutting the bloated ICE budget and holding the agency accountable, fighting for fair and humane immigration reform, protecting reproductive rights, and supporting Medicare for All.
"Whatever organizing strength this campaign still has will go toward the candidate who best reflects those values. I still believe that together, we can build a new American dream.
"Thank you for your friendship, your trust, and for allowing me to share this extraordinary journey with you. This is not goodbye. It is simply the beginning of the next chapter."
