Michael B. Moore, a Democrat running for the U.S. House of Representatives in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District, today received the endorsement of former state Sen. Marlon Kimpson.
"Michael is an experienced business and community leader. He's used to balancing budgets, bridging divides, and bringing home real results," said Kimpson. "I believe he’s the best candidate positioned to energize our Democratic base, persuade independent-minded Republicans, and assemble the coalition needed to win in November. I share Michael's hopeful vision for the future of this district, and I’m excited to endorse his campaign for Congress."
A Columbia native and an alumnus of Morehouse College and the University of South Carolina School of Law, Kimpson served in the South Carolina Senate for nearly a decade, representing District 42. In 2023, President Joe Biden appointed Kimpson to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations in the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Kimpson is also an attorney at Motley Rice LLC, headquartered in Mount Pleasant.
"Marlon is a passionate advocate, a talented attorney, and an inspiring leader," said Moore. "He served the residents of Charleston and Dorchester Counties with distinction in the South Carolina Senate. Now, Marlon continues to fight for America's working families on the U.S. Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. I'm honored to have earned his endorsement in the race for SC-01."
Kimpson is the latest of several prominent supporters to endorse Moore's candidacy, including Rev. Kenneth Hodges, businessman Bratton Riley, former Beaufort Mayor Billy Keyserling, Rev. Eric S.C. Manning, former Charleston County Council Member Anna Johnson, former Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg, Rev. Joseph Darby, Gullah ambassador Anita-Singleton Prather, former state Rep. Anton Gunn, Bluffton Town Council Member Bridgette Frazier, and Charleston City Council Member Keith Waring.
Moore also has earned the endorsements of the International Longshoremen's Association Local 1422 and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.
