Congratulations to former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie for winning election recently to be Charleston County Sheriff in the 2024 election. Sheriff Carl Ritchie has been involved with law enforcement and police work for 33 years in the Charleston area. And all of his family was there at his swearing-in at the Charleston County Council chamber back on January 7th, 2025.
And the five-point plan that Ritchie campaigned for is the right move to end crime in the Charleston area. That five-point plan includes having a good jail administrator, 24/7 EMTs to help people in dire need in the Charleston area that need medical care, private security to help staff, having a dedicated human resource professional, and having sheriff deputies with leading crucial positions in the county. And Ritchie has already named the new Charleston County Jail administrator. That person is Stanley E. Davis, who was named by Ritchie on January 25th, 2025.
As a Republican who actually beat and won against Democratic Sheriff Kristin Graziano in the 2024 election, who was the first ever openly gay woman sheriff in the history of South Carolina, newly elected Sheriff Carl Ritchie said about his recent victory, "Thank you for believing in me. My pledge to you: I will serve with integrity, never do anything to compromise or discredit myself, the office of Sheriff, or the Charleston County Sheriff's office. I will serve with courage."
I think it's great that Carl Ritchie has recently been elected Sheriff of Charleston County because he was endorsed for Sheriff by longtime GOP Former Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon, who was beaten for reelection by Kristin Graziano back in the year 2020.
The recent election this past November of Charleston County Sheriff Carl Ritchie will bring a forceful police system in the Charleston area that will have police on the beat and have them at all times locked and loaded. And here's a great victory: congratulations to newly elected Charleston County Sheriff Carl Ritchie for his new role down in the Lowcountry.
