Today, State Representative Leon Stavrinakis announced that he will seek re-election to the South Carolina State House in District 119. Stavrinakis, a Democrat, has represented the district since first being elected in 2006. Prior to that, he served as Chairman of Charleston County Council and as a local prosecutor.
“I’m excited to seek another term because there is still so much work to do for our community,” Stavrinakis said. “The Charleston area faces serious infrastructure and growth management challenges, and we must continue ensuring that our public schools have the resources they need to safely educate our children.”
Stavrinakis currently serves on both the Ways and Means Committee and the Ethics Committee.
“With the explosive growth in our region, we need proven leadership that can cut through bureaucratic red tape and partisan gridlock to get things done,” he added.
Stavrinakis and his wife, Anne, live in West Ashley. They have three children: Clara Anne, Emmanuel, and Emma.
