KJ Atwood for Congress announced today the launch of its Fellowship Program, a hands-on opportunity for college students, non-traditional students, and young adults across South Carolina to gain real experience while helping build a locally-focused campaign effort in the Lowcountry. The team also invited community members of all ages to volunteer, participate in events, and help shape the issues that matter most to District 1 families.
The Fellowship Program is a 10-hour-per-week commitment designed to give participants practical experience in the core functions of a U.S. District 1 congressional campaign, including policy and communications, grassroots outreach, and campaign operations.
“Too often, people who want to serve are told to wait their turn or watch from the sidelines,” said KJ Atwood. “This fellowship is about opening the doors. If you care about your community and want real experience, consider joining our team and be part of building something meaningful.”
Fellows will support the campaign through rotating assignments in three areas:
- Policy and Communications: Draft short policy briefs, write issue summaries, and help create social media content that explains the campaign’s priorities in clear, accessible language.
- Grassroots Organizing: Support phone banking, street teaming, and event tabling to engage voters and recruit volunteers.
- Campaign Operations: Help staff events with the candidate, assist with logistics, and support the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a campaign moving.
Fellowship applicants do not need prior campaign experience. Training and support are provided.
In addition to the Fellowship Program, the campaign is recruiting volunteers to help with voter outreach and community engagement. Volunteers can choose flexible roles, including:
- Canvassing and literature drops
- Phone banking and voter outreach
- Event support and community tabling
- Digital amplification and content support
- Neighborhood team leads and host opportunities
