Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jermaine Johnson will return to his alma mater, the College of Charleston, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, for a National Voter Registration Day event. Johnson attended the college on a basketball scholarship and served as a team captain before later playing professionally.
Johnson will attend Beyond the Ballot: Community Connection Celebration, a free, nonpartisan event hosted by Be The Ones and a coalition of College of Charleston and community partners. The event will be held at Rivers Green, behind Addlestone Library.
The gathering is designed to give College of Charleston students and community members an opportunity to meet candidates and elected officials while marking National Voter Registration Day. Organizers say the event will also focus on voter registration and broader civic engagement.
Johnson is scheduled to attend from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Other 2026 candidates are also expected to participate.
Johnson, a Democrat and current state representative, is running for governor in the Nov. 3 general election.
Beyond the Ballot is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rivers Green at the College of Charleston.
