On Friday, May 29, Governor Andy Beshear will headline the South Carolina Democratic Party’s major annual gathering, the Blue Palmetto Dinner. In his remarks, the governor will lay out how Democrats can win back the kind of voters who have increasingly slipped away from the party, especially in the South. His remarks will be grounded in his experience winning three statewide elections in a deep red state that Donald Trump carried by 31 points in 2024.
Earlier on Friday, the governor will also meet with local leaders in Sumter and attend a roundtable with childcare providers. In Kentucky, Governor Beshear is working to expand affordable pre-k, including launching two Pre-K for All pilot programs in rural Kentucky.
On Saturday, the governor will attend faith events in Columbia and Hopkins. Governor Beshear and his wife Britainy serve as deacons in their family church, and he describes his faith as the driving force in his life.
Later on Saturday, Governor Beshear will also attend a roundtable on rural issues in Gaston. In November, the governor wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post laying out how Democrats could win back rural voters, based on his own electoral success in Kentucky. Specifically, Beshear referred to Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill as a “slap in the face to rural America,” noting that just in Kentucky it threatens to close 35 rural hospitals and could cost nearly 20,000 healthcare workers their jobs.
On Sunday, he will briefly meet with Senior Pastor Dr. Anthony McCallum of Bethlehem Baptist Church–College Place and attend the 10 a.m. worship service.
