COLUMBIA - Breaking Bread Together, a new national movement founded by former South Carolina Governor and former World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley (pictured), has been launched with a simple but urgent premise: Americans of differing political, cultural, and religious backgrounds still have far more in common than what divides them and the fastest way to rediscover that is to sit down and share a meal.
Breaking Bread Together will bring its model to communities across the country in the months ahead, partnering with local organizations to host meals where neighbors representing different viewpoints come together not to debate, but to listen to one another, discovering shared values and goals.
"We've forgotten how to disagree without losing sight of each other's humanity," said Former Governor David Beasley. "Breaking Bread Together isn't about erasing our differences. It's about proving that they don't have to divide us. When people slow down, share a table, and truly listen to one another, communities grow stronger and real progress becomes possible."
At the heart of the movement is a straightforward conviction: political differences should never stand in the way of treating our neighbors with respect and dignity. Breaking Bread Together is built on the belief that lasting change doesn't start in Washington. It starts around kitchen tables, church halls, and community farms in cities and towns across America.
Breaking Bread Together will roll out in communities nationwide this autumn, with each event hosted in partnership with a local organization and tailored to the community it serves.
