Dr. Annie Andrews, a local pediatrician who unsuccessfully challenged U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in 2022, today announced that she’s running against Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham in 2026.
Dr. Andrews made the announcement via a campaign video which you can see below. In the video, Dr. Andrews says Sen. Graham is "completely and unequivocally full of shit." That statement was followed by a montage of clips showing Sen. Graham changing his position on President Donald Trump.
According to her campaign website, Dr. Andrews is running for Senate "because kids and parents across the state are getting screwed by a system designed to work for the powerful, not the rest of us."
Prior to this campaign run, Dr. Andrews spent nearly two decades in children’s hospitals and was an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
She was the Democratic nominee who unsuccessfully attempted to unseat Rep. Mace in 2022. Since then, Dr. Andrews left MUSC and founded "Their Future. Our Vote.," a political organization that aimed to "bring attention to the most urgent issues facing America's children and advocate for policies that prioritize their needs and well-being." Those issues included "climate action, quality education, accessible healthcare, sensible gun legislation, reducing child hunger and poverty, and strengthening democracy by protecting voting rights."
Dr. Andrews received her MD from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and went on to complete her residency training in Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
She is married to Dr. Charlie Andrews, a Neurological Critical Care doctor at the Medical University of South Carolina. They have three kids and reside in Mount Pleasant.
