MANNING, S.C. — DeShawn Blanding has officially filed as a Democratic candidate for South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture, positioning himself as a "forward-thinking advocate for the state's farmers, rural communities, and the long-term health of South Carolina's agricultural economy."
As Commissioner of Agriculture, Blanding has pledged "to serve as a tireless advocate for every farmer across the Palmetto State — from the family-owned operations of the Lowcountry to the commodity producers of the Pee Dee region."
He said his campaign centers on expanding access to agricultural resources, strengthening rural infrastructure, ensuring equitable support for historically underserved farming communities, and advancing food security initiatives that benefit all South Carolinians.
“South Carolina’s farmers and rural families deserve a Commissioner who fights for them every single day — someone who understands their challenges, respects their labor, and will work to build a stronger, more equitable agricultural future for our great state," Blanding said. "I am proud to officially enter this race and carry that mission forward.”
The South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture oversees the state’s agricultural programs, consumer protection services, market development initiatives, and regulatory functions critical to the economic vitality of one of South Carolina’s leading industries.
