David Osborne (pictured) today announced his candidacy as a Democrat for 9th Circuit Solicitor, which encompasses Charleston and Berkeley Counties.
Osborne, a native of Charleston, started his career as a police officer in New Orleans. In 2002, he moved back to the Lowcountry to join the Charleston Police Department, quickly moving up the ranks and advancing to the Violent Crimes Unit.
A detective during the day, Osborne attended the Charleston School of Law in the evenings. After earning his law degree in 2013, Osborne became an assistant solicitor in the 9th circuit where he served for seven years. In 2021 Osborne joined the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s office as Senior Litigation Counsel, where he convicted numerous violent criminals. Since joining the first circuit, Osborne has successfully tried 23 murder warrants to guilty verdicts. At the same time, the entire 9th Circuit tried only four murder warrants to guilty verdicts, despite being the largest circuit in the state.
“The current leadership in the 9th circuit is failing the families of this community.," Osborne said. "We’ve got to get it back on track, which is exactly what I will do. From my experience as a police officer to a prosecutor, I’ve dedicated my professional life to demanding justice for crime victims, making our streets safer while also ensuring equality and fairness in the justice system. I believe I am uniquely prepared for this challenge."
Osborne is married and has two children. He is a graduate of Summerville High School, the University of South Carolina, and thje Charleston School of Law. For more information visit www.osborneforsolicitor.com
