Democrat David Bell, a Navy veteran and public servant, announced that he is running for South Carolina House District 116, which includes West Ashley off Glen McConnell, parts of Johns Island, Wadmalaw Island, Hollywood, Ravenel, Edisto Island, Edisto Beach, and Meggett.
Bell says he is running on a platform "focused on fully funding public education, reforming property taxes to protect working families, expanding access to affordable healthcare, improving state-level benefits for veterans and disabled veterans, and protecting individual freedoms."
“As a submarine veteran, I’ve spent my life solving problems under pressure and putting people first,” Bell said. “Too many families are struggling with rising costs, underfunded schools, and limited access to care. Our veterans deserve better support, and our communities deserve leadership that delivers real solutions.”
Bell served 20 years in the United States Navy aboard five submarines and now works in manufacturing systems and operations.
His priorities include fully funding public education so the best school is the one closest to home, universal Pre-K, property tax reform, zero-deductible primary and preventative care, affordable chronic medications, and stronger support for veterans.
“The government should stay out of deeply personal decisions,” Bell said. “We need to demand more from our statehouse on education, healthcare, taxes, and basic freedoms. South Carolina can do better.”
