Charleston County Council will hold an emergency meeting at 4:30 p.m. to receive an update on Invest 94L and its potential local impacts. The meeting will take place in Council Chambers, located at 4045 Bridge View Drive, and can be live streamed here.
Emergency Management officials remain in close communication with National Weather Service, state, and local leaders as they continue to monitor Invest 94L and make preliminary preparations.
According to the latest information from the National Weather Service, the tropical disturbance is currently located near the eastern edge of Cuba and is expected to intensify as it develops in the coming days. It remains uncertain exactly what track the storm may take and when it could reach the South Carolina coast but impacts early next week are possible.
County departments are taking preliminary precautions, including inspecting stormwater ditches and clearing obstructions, placing emergency operations teams on standby, and supporting sandbag operations for small municipalities, as requested.
Charleston County continues to operate at OPCON 3 (normal daily operations) but may adjust its operating conditions as additional information about the storm and its path become available. The Emergency Operations Center may activate as needed in accordance with the county’s shift in OPCON levels.
“While we don’t yet know the exact path or timing of this system, now is the time to be vigilant,” said Charleston County Emergency Management Director Justin Pierce. “Take today and tomorrow to put your plan in place, check in with family members, and make sure you have the supplies you need. As always, stay connected to trusted sources for updates as the forecast develop.”
