Clay Middleton, Democratic candidate for South Carolina House District 116, today announced the endorsement of Congressman Jim Clyburn.
“I have known Clay since he was a student leader at Burke High School," said Clyburn. "He has worked in my office and continues to be one of the most trusted members of my team. House District 116 is a seat Democrats can retake with the right candidate, and Clay can win in November. He will be the fighter we can rely on in Columbia to get things done for us, our families, and our communities.
"Clay will fight to make House District 116 more affordable and more accessible to working families and seniors. I’m looking forward to working with him to provide the necessary resources to serve all the people of this District effectively and efficiently.”
Middleton credits Rep. Clyburn’s mentorship with shaping his commitment to service and responsive leadership.
“The Congressman has always taught me the importance of showing up and doing the work. His philosophy of making headway rather than headlines has shaped my approach to leadership. Our district is missing that kind of steady, responsive representation. People across the district are ready for leadership that listens, engages, and delivers results that improve quality of life for everyone,” said Middleton. “I will hit the ground running on behalf of District 116. They deserve better, and they deserve a leader with the integrity, experience, and temperament to show up and do the work.”
This endorsement follows a list of nearly 40 community and civic leaders who have announced their support for Clay Middleton. That announcement can be found here.
The Democratic primary for House District 116 will be held on June 9.
