The City of Charleston held the first in a series of meetings Tuesday to discuss the proposed 2026 Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Referendum and begin identifying the city’s priority projects.
During the Traffic and Transportation Committee meeting, Mayor William Cogswell and City Councilmembers focused on roadway projects on Johns Island and James Island, including safety improvements, congestion relief, and critical infrastructure needs.
The discussion marked the start of a broader process to define transportation priorities across Charleston. Over the next several weeks, the committee will continue reviewing project needs through regularly scheduled and special meetings, each focused on a specific geographic area or theme.
