DeAnna Miller, a candidate for Charleston City Council District 12, said she was shocked to receive “a dark money PAC text message from supporters of one of her opponents” on Monday night. Miller said the message contained lies about her track record. Screenshots of the message are included in this post.
Miller released the following statement:
“In a last-minute text message to District 12 voters, one of my opponents and her followers showed their true colors. Take a look at the message that went out.
Do you want to elect someone who lies to you? I sure don’t. And the people who I’ve called neighbors for the past 22 years sure don’t want to either.
All this tells me is that my opponents are scared. And they should be.
I’ve never opposed improvements to our community.
I’ve actually worked with SCDOT and other governmental leaders to IMPROVE our roads. Just look back at my social media posts.
I’ve actively participated in community meetings during my two decades here on James Island to improve livability.
And tonight, while this text was being blasted to my friends on James Island, I was at a meeting learning about improvements to Ft. Johnson Rd.
A line I use a lot when speaking with kids on the Discipline Committee at the high school is ‘you are the company you keep.’ When you surround yourself with people who use dirty campaign tactics, you are just as guilty.
I will continue to work for you, James Island. See you at the polls!”
