On Saturday March 1, the Charleston County Democratic Party kicked off the 2026 Election Cycle by holding its annual convention and electing a new slate of party officers.
Pastor Thomas Dixon, the party’s 2016 nominee for U.S. Senate and a former candidate for Mayor of North Charleston, was elected County Party Chairman in a narrow vote over Charleston County Auditor Peter Tecklenburg. Tamara Curry, Julie Hussey, and Adrienne Lett were each elected to Vice Chair roles as well.
“The Big Tent is now open and I want to welcome you all to the fight of your lives!” said Dixon in his introductory remarks after winning the election.
Outgoing Chair Sam Skardon, who did not seek another term, said, “Pastor Dixon has a long history of speaking truth to power, and sadly our country is in a moment when that’s needed more that ever.”
The Convention had to be moved to a larger venue on three day’s notice due to increased interest and record setting in-person turn-out. Over 300 hundred local Democrats participated in the party’s annual organizing event.
