The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is sharing key information ahead of upcoming elections. On June 9, both the Republican and Democratic primaries will take place. Election Day will also include the Charleston County School Board District 4 special election.
Voter Registration Deadlines — June 9 Elections
- In person: Friday, May 8, 2026, by 5 p.m.
- Online/email/fax: Sunday, May 10, 2026, by 11:59 p.m.
- Mail (postmark): Monday, May 11, 2026
Primary Elections
Key reminders for voters:
- Voters can choose to vote in one, but not both, primaries.
- South Carolina does not register voters by party.
- Voting in one party’s primary does not tie a voter to that party in the general election.
- Voters who participate in a party’s primary and want to vote in that party’s runoff must continue with the same party.
- Voters who did not vote in either primary may vote in one party’s runoff.
Charleston County School Board District 4 Special Election — June 9
Important notes:
- Only voters who are eligible and reside within District 4 can vote in the special election.
- This ballot will be separate from the primary ballots.
- A dedicated check-in station will be provided specifically for special election voters.
Polling Location Changes
Several polling location changes are in effect for Election Day in June. These changes were made for a variety of reasons, including facility availability, efforts to reduce congestion and improvements to accessibility. Some moves apply only to specific contests in 2026, while others are permanent.
Whenever possible, new locations were selected close to previous polling places. Voters affected by any changes will receive mailed notifications, and directional signage will be posted at former locations on Election Day.

- Charleston 10 & 11 (Charleston Water System) moved to Morris Brown AME Church, 13 Morris St., Charleston (June primaries/runoffs only)
- St. Andrews 6 (Ashley River Baptist Church) moved to Calvary Chapel West Ashley, 1595 Savannah Highway, Charleston (all 2026 elections)
- Mount Pleasant 13 & 14 (James B. Edwards Elementary) moved to Mount Pleasant Library, 1133 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant (June primaries only)
- St. Andrews 22 & 23 (Old St. Andrews Parish Church) moved to Springfield Elementary School, 2130 Pinehurst Ave., Charleston (June primaries/runoffs only)
Permanent Changes
- St. Andrews 26 (Essex Village Church of Christ) moved to Greater Macedonia AME Church, 725 Savage Road, Charleston
- St. Andrews 10 (Cynthia Graham Hurd Library) moved to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 1393 Miles Drive, Charleston
- St. Andrews 3 & 9 (Forest Park Park House) moved to St. Andrews Parks & Playground, 1095 Playground Road, Charleston
- James Island 6 (James Island Charter High School) moved to James Island Town Hall, 1122 Dills Bluff Road, Charleston
- James Island 13 (Stiles Point Elementary School) moved to Harbor View Presbyterian Church, 900 Harbor View Road, Charleston
All polling locations will continue to offer curbside voting to those who qualify. Voters can verify their polling location and check their voter registration by visiting SCVotes.gov.
Absentee Voting
Eligible voters may vote absentee by mail. Qualifications and guidelines are available at CHSVotes.gov.
- Absentee ballot applications must be returned to Charleston County Elections headquarters by Friday, May 29, 2026, at 5 p.m.
- Absentee ballots must be completed and received by Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 7 p.m.
- Absentee ballots may also be returned to any early voting center during the early voting period.
Early Voting
All eligible voters may cast their ballot at any early voting center during the early voting period:
- Tuesday, May 26 – Friday, May 29, 2026
- Monday, June 1 – Friday, June 5, 2026
- Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
Additional details:
- There will be five early voting centers for the primaries. Locations are listed on CHSVotes.gov.
- Charleston County Elections headquarters will serve as the sole early voting location for the special election.
