Charleston County Elections is enhancing accessibility for voters in the upcoming 2025 municipal elections, ensuring every voter can cast their ballot with comfort, confidence, and independence.
In partnership with the Voter Accessibility Advisory Committee (VAAC), officials have introduced an Accessibility Menu, a clear and easy-to-read resource outlining the tools and assistance available to voters with disabilities. The menu features text and visuals to guide voters through their options and explain how to request help if needed. Copies will be available at the check-in desk at all Early Voting Centers and polling locations on Election Day. It can also be accessed online in a screen reader–friendly format. Additionally, each Early Voting Center will have an Accessibility Kit featuring resources such as signature guides, additional signage, and disposable headphone covers to further support voters.
To assist neurodivergent voters, Charleston County Elections will also provide sensory inclusive bags, equipped with items such as fidget tools, noise-canceling headphones, and other calming resources. These bags will be available upon request at all Early Voting Centers.
The VAAC, a group of dedicated community volunteers, continues to advise Charleston County Elections on improving accessibility and reducing barriers to voting. Together, their goal is to ensure all eligible voters have a positive and inclusive voting experience.
