On October 14, 2024, Charleston County Democratic Party (CCDP) Chairman Sam Skardon issued a press release identifying Charleston County Councilman (District 7) Brantley Moody as the individual who berated volunteers inside a CCDP office while falsely accusing them of tampering with his yard signs.
Skardon said the release reported the facts as they were known at the time and confirmed by multiple sources. Councilman Moody vehemently denied these allegations. On Oct. 15, 2024, Moody filed a defamation lawsuit against the party and Skardon. Moody alleged Skardon defamed him.
On Friday, the CCDP and Chairman Skardon extended an apology to Councilman Moody.
