On Thursday, November 9th, the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) announced the following races would proceed to runoff elections:
- Charleston – City Council District 9
- Charleston – Mayor
- Folly Beach – City Council
Election Day for the runoff elections listed above will be Tuesday, November 21st. Voters with runoff elections can vote at their assigned polling locations between 7 am and 7 pm on Election Day. Only polling locations serving voters with runoff elections will be open on November 21st.
Residents who voted absentee for the November 7th elections and who requested an absentee ballot in the event of a runoff will be mailed a runoff ballot. Voters must qualify to vote absentee. For a list of qualifications, visit CHSVotes.gov. All absentee ballots must be returned to BVRE headquarters by 7 pm on November 21st.
Early voting for all runoff elections will be held at BVRE headquarters from Wednesday, Nov. 15th through Friday, Nov. 17th. Early voting hours are 8:30 am until 5 pm each day. Any resident eligible to vote in a runoff election can cast their ballot during the early voting period. No excuse is needed to vote early. No other early voting locations will be open for the runoff elections.
Eligible residents did not need to have participated in the November 7th elections to participate in the runoff elections.
On Friday, Nov. 10, BVRE headquarters will only be open for certification of the SC Senate District 42 Special Election.
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is responsible for conducting all municipal, state, and federal elections that are held in Charleston County. BVRE also conducts outreach events with community members that encourage election education and participation.
