Democrat Brandon Brown officially filed to run for the United States Senate on Friday, March 20, launching his campaign to unseat incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham.
Brown, a South Carolina native, former vice president of three HBCUs, and small business owner, enters the race with a message centered on restoring power to working people and challenging what he describes as a deeply broken political system.
“Lindsey Graham is corrupt and out of touch with the people of South Carolina,” said Brown. “For far too long, he has put political power and personal ambition ahead of the needs of working families. I’m running to end this corrupt system of politics that places power over people.”
Brown’s campaign will focus on lowering costs for families, protecting Social Security and Medicare, expanding access to affordable healthcare, investing in public education, and ensuring that every South Carolinian has a fair shot at success.
He also addressed what he sees as the wealthy elites’ strongholds in South Carolina democratic politics.
“I believe that the power of the people of South Carolina is more powerful than the money being poured into our races by interest groups and wealthy elites who want to buy this election and push out candidates like Dr. Jermaine Johnson,” Brown said. “I’m ready to have a serious debate with my opponent about her ties to this system and her loyalty to our party.”
