SUMMERVILLE, SC – Ashley Painter, Democratic candidate for South Carolina House District 117, released the following statement in response to State Representative Jordan Pace’s continued focus on redistricting efforts:
“At a time when families in our community are struggling to afford groceries, housing, childcare, and healthcare, Jordan Pace is choosing to focus on political maneuvering instead of real solutions,” Painter said. “That tells you everything you need to know about his priorities.”
Painter said South Carolina families are facing a cost-of-living crisis that demands immediate attention from lawmakers.
“Four out of ten South Carolinians cannot afford basic necessities,” Painter said. “Parents are making impossible choices between rent and medicine. Working people are doing everything right and still falling behind. That is what our Statehouse should be focused on.”
Rather than engaging in partisan battles and distractions, Painter said lawmakers should be working to lower everyday costs, strengthen public education, expand access to healthcare, and support small businesses.
“People in Berkeley County are not asking for political games,” Painter said. “They are asking for leadership that understands what it feels like to worry about a grocery bill or a childcare payment. They want someone who will fight for affordable housing, fair wages, and policies that make life easier, not harder.”
Painter entered the race to bring what she calls practical, people-first leadership to Columbia.
“I am running because our community deserves representation that puts families ahead of politics,” Painter said. “We can disagree on policy, but we should all agree that lowering costs and improving the quality of life should come before partisan distractions. It is time to get back to the basics and deliver real results for the people of Berkeley County.”
