On Sunday, December 8, the USS Yorktown’s hangar bay at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will be hung with merriment, including a Festival of Wreaths, Holiday Market, and more, all part of its inaugural Yuletide on the Yorktown holiday event.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., guests can browse local vendors, shop artisanal goods, and enjoy live music while immersing themselves in the history of the renowned WWII aircraft carrier. Face painting, kids’ crafts, and activities make it fun for the whole family. Santa will be aboard the ship from 1:00 to 4 p.m., and professional photo packages will be available for purchase, starting at $40. Friends of the Fleet members are invited to enjoy a Cookies ‘N Crafts activity in Hangar Bay 1.
Patriots Point will offer $15 admission the entire day on December 8. Tickets include access to both the museum and event. Friends of the Fleet members and children under the age of six are free. Hourly parking rates still apply.
“The Fighting Lady will be decked out for the holidays to welcome our community.” said Allison Hunt, Executive Director of Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, “Please join us on the hangar bay of our historic World War II aircraft carrier for a day of festive fun with special pricing- and a very special guest!”
Twenty-four organizations across the Charleston area are participating in this year’s Festival of Wreaths and donated creatively crafted wreaths for bidding, online or in-person. The wreaths will remain on display in the Yorktown’s hangar bay, now through December 13. All proceeds directly support the USS Yorktown Foundation and Patriots Point programming.
“The Festival of Wreaths is a celebration of community, creativity, and giving back.” said Meaghan Silsby, Executive Director of the USS Yorktown Foundation, “This event not only brings people together during the holiday season but also supports our mission to preserve history and inspire future generations. Each wreath and donation reflects the incredible generosity of our community, and we are deeply grateful for the support that enables us to continue honoring the legacy of Patriots Point.”
