We Are Sharing Hope SC, South Carolina’s federally designated nonprofit organ and tissue recovery organization, will host a flag raising ceremony on April 10 in partnership with Donate Life South Carolina. The event will bring together donor families and transplant recipients to honor National Blue & Green Day and recognize the donor heroes who have given the gift of life.
April is National Donate Life Month, and National Blue & Green Day is observed each year to raise awareness about the importance of registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor. Kevin Shwedo, Director of the SCDMV, will raise the flag at 1:08 p.m. as a reminder that one person can save up to eight lives through donation. Speakers and select families and recipients will be available for interviews following the ceremony. Mattie Porter, Miss South Carolina Teen Volunteer 2026, will serve as the keynote speaker, sharing her personal connection to donation through her mother, a kidney transplant recipient.
The flag raising will be held at 2215 Henry Tecklenburg Drive.
