We Are Sharing Hope SC, South Carolina’s nonprofit, federally-designated organ, eye and tissue recovery program, in partnership with Donate Life South Carolina (DLSC) gathered with donor families and transplant recipients for a flag-raising ceremony in recognition of National Blue & Green Day. The annual observance raises awareness for donation while honoring the legacies and generosity of those that said yes, their families and those that received a second chance at life.
The flag raising took place at 1:08 p.m. – a powerful reminder that one person can save up to eight lives through donation. Kevin Shwedo, Executive Director of the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV), where South Carolinians can register to become a donor, raised the flag and addressed attendees, emphasizing the profound impact of donation and the lifesaving difference each donor can make for so many in need of a transplant.
“Today is an opportunity for us to recognize the generosity of South Carolinians that made the selfless decision to say 'YES' and to their families that honored their wish during such a tragic moment in their lives,” said Krystal Cau, Director of Communications at We Are Sharing Hope SC.
SHSC and DLSC work collaboratively to further educate and bring awareness to the importance and impact donation can have on so many lives. As donation advocates and stewards of the gift, they are committed to further educating the community they serve and bringing awareness to the critical need for donation across the state of South Carolina.
