Murrells Inlet, S.C. — With the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) temporarily suspended because of the government shutdown, the Waccamaw Community Foundation (WCF) is stepping in to support local nonprofits working to meet growing food needs across the region.
“We know that when a federal program like SNAP is disrupted, it’s our local nonprofits who become the first line of help,” said Michael Mancuso, president and CEO of the Waccamaw Community Foundation. “Our goal is to make it easy for donors to respond quickly and confidently — ensuring families in the Waccamaw region don’t go hungry.”
WCF has launched an online giving hub at waccamawcf.org where donors can help in several ways:
- Give directly to local food distribution nonprofits through links provided on the site.
- Contribute through Waccamaw Gives, which distributes donations to partner organizations across the region.
- Support the ONE SC Fund, which provides statewide assistance to food banks, including those serving the Waccamaw area.
“Every dollar makes a difference right now,” Mancuso said. “By giving through these channels, donors can be sure their gifts are feeding families and strengthening our community during this period of need.”
