Charleston County Public Works officials will host a quarterly public meeting for the ongoing U.S. 17 and Main Road project (Main Road Segment A) at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 4 at St. John’s High School, located at 1518 Main Road.
During the meeting, the project team will provide updates on milestones achieved, work underway, and next steps. Following their presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to speak directly with the project team.
Funded by the 2016 Transportation Sales Tax, the U.S. 17 and Main Road improvements begin at Bees Ferry Road and continue for 2.4 miles along Main Road to River and Chisolm Roads. The project’s purpose is to reduce congestion at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Main Road, increase capacity along Main Road from Bees Ferry Road to River and Chisolm Roads, provide safe bicycle and pedestrian access across the Stono River, and improve stormwater drainage throughout the project area.
The project team will continue to host quarterly public meetings to deliver status updates and answer questions throughout the duration of construction, which is expected to be completed in 2028.
