Trident United Way is proud to announce it has received a grant of $87,500 from Truist Foundation to support Pathways to Stability, an innovative program that helps workers stay on the job during financial hardships while also helping local businesses keep employees on staff and boost productivity.
The grant was celebrated with a check presentation at Trident United Way’s offices in North Charleston where Truist teammates, including Mark Lattanzio, Coastal Market President and Trident United Way board member, joined to share more about the initiative’s community impact.
“At Truist, our purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities,” said Lattanzio. “Our partnership with Trident United Way is a powerful extension of that, enabling us to invest in impactful workforce development initiatives that help individuals gain valuable skills and employment while strengthening the economic resilience of local families and businesses.”
Pathways to Stability connects workers to one-on-one case management, financial coaching, benefit screenings and emergency support through tools like SC211 and CharityTracker™. During the program’s pilot phase, 100% of enrolled employees remained employed despite significant financial hardships, demonstrating the power of timely, personalized support systems.
“We are deeply grateful for Truist Foundation’s generous investment in this transformative initiative,” said DJ Hampton, President & CEO of Trident United Way. “This partnership not only expands our capacity to deliver critical support services but also enhances our ability to meet families where they are, whether they’re facing immediate challenges or striving for long-term stability. By reinforcing the essential link between workforce development and community well-being, this collaboration helps lay the groundwork for lasting economic mobility, stronger families and more prosperous neighborhoods. Together, we are building a foundation for sustainable progress and growth across our region.”
Pathways to Stability’s pilot program was conducted in collaboration with industry partners, and expansion is planned across the healthcare, hospitality and manufacturing sectors. Grant funds will support the hiring of a full-time Client Navigator, enhance system capacity and facilitate the enrollment of new employer partners throughout the Tri-County region.
The grant also advances Trident United Way’s broader mission to support the financial stability of families in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
