
On Tuesday October 31st, Trident Literacy Association received a $5,000 grant from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. The foundation awards grants to nonprofits that strive to reduce poverty throughout the state of South Carolina and beyond. Trident Literacy Association was part of the Immediate Needs category.
These grants support organizations that meet the fundamental needs of people experiencing poverty in South Carolina. The Sisters of Charity Foundation donated $390,000 across 75 different organizations in this category.
The mission of Trident Literacy Association is to help adults reverse the cycle and impact of generational poverty and illiteracy through the acquisition of vital life skills. “The grant from Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina will fund our award winning English as a Second Language program allowing us to help the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Jen Gibson, Executive Director of Trident Literacy Association.
In this cycle of funding, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awarded 100 grants totaling $877,000 to nonprofit organizations across the state. 33 of the 100 organizations to receive a grant are located in the Lowcountry, a $283,000 commitment to the region.

These Cycle 2 grant recipients serve all 46 of South Carolina counties, and many of these nonprofits provide services across the state.
