Work associated with Charleston County’s SC-41 Interim Improvements Project is set to begin Monday, May 13, 2024. The project, which will be completed in phases, is designed to improve safety and increase efficiency throughout the SC-41 corridor.
The first phase of work, which is expected to be completed within three months, includes the installation of new left turn lanes at the SC-41 and US-17 intersection. To facilitate that process and ensure the safety of workers, a shoulder closure will be in effect at the slip lane from SC-41 onto US-17. As work progresses, the slip lane will close during off-peak hours (9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday) and a detour will be put in place, routing traffic through the SC-41 Service Road.
The following improvements are also planned for later phases of the project and are expected to be completed by the end of 2024:
- The widening of Dingle Road at the US-17 intersection to accommodate a new dedicated left turn lane and a combination right and thru lane
- The installation of dedicated turn lanes and a new traffic signal at the SC-41 and Joe Rouse Road intersection to encourage a smoother flow of traffic
As always, drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work area.
