With more than 30 years of hospitality experience and leading teams at some of the finest luxury hotels in the United States and globally, Sommer will oversee all aspects of operations, including strategic planning, financial management and ensuring The Dewberry maintains its high standards of excellence across guest service and staff performance.

He repositioned the hotel as a part of a 5-year strategy to grow sales and execute a multiphase renovation, increasing revenue within just 6 months on the job. A passion for all facets of hospitality, Sommer graduated from The University of Arkansas before entering the Culinary Institute of America to follow his passion for cooking. He began his career in food and beverage working in a series of managerial positions at Four Seasons New York and Four Seasons Resort and Club in Dallas, before serving as Director of Food & Beverage at Four Seasons Resort Nevis and Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach. Sommer returned to Four Seasons Resort and Club in Dallas to serve as the lead Catering Manager and Business Development Principal. Transitioning into larger leadership roles, Sommer held positions as General Manager for Hotel Les Mans and Managing Director at The Matheson and Roof 106 in Healdsburg, CA.
“I am honored to be joining the team at The Dewberry as the hotel approaches its 10-year anniversary,” said Brian Sommer, Managing Director of The Dewberry. “The property has long served as a beacon of hospitality excellence in the southeast, and I look forward to bringing my expertise to help the team evolve in its next chapter.”
Sommer champions a culture of accountability and excellence through thoughtful communication and focuses on being a results-driven business operator at all the positions he takes on. Sommer believes community is a vital part of life and enjoys serving his workplace and community with the intent of leaving anywhere he travels better than how he found it. An avid outdoor enthusiast and lover of travel, in his free time, Sommer looks forward to connecting with other business leaders in the greater Charleston community and exploring all the Lowcountry has to offer.
