River Road will temporarily close to through traffic between Brownswood Road and Main Road beginning Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m., as crews replace an existing culvert near the intersection as part of the ongoing U.S. 17 and Main Road improvements.
Work will take place on weekends only, beginning at 7 p.m. each Friday and concluding by 6 a.m. each Monday. Because of the complexity and location of the work, the roadway closure is likely to be required over multiple weekends.
Barricades and detour signage will be in place to safely guide motorists around the work area. Residents who live on River Road between the work zone and Brownswood Road will continue to have access to their properties. Motorists who typically travel to Main Road via River Road will be detoured to Brownswood Road or Old Pond Road for access.
If a weather event or other emergency occurs, work will pause, and the contractor will reopen the roadway until conditions allow construction to resume.
Travelers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and expect additional travel time during active closure periods. Notifications and schedule updates will be provided ahead of each weekend closure.
