The intersection of Fort Johnson Road and Secessionville Road will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic beginning Sunday evening, April 5, 2026, through Saturday evening, April 11, 2026, as construction crews perform utility relocation work as part of Charleston County’s ongoing traffic and safety improvement project in the area.
To help minimize disruption, the closure is scheduled to occur during spring break while school is out of session. Weather permitting, crews will relocate existing Charleston Water System water mains and install new storm drainage crossings, both of which require work within the roadway.
Digital message boards are in place to provide advance notice to the traveling public.
As illustrated in the attached detour plan:
- Roads marked in red will be closed to through traffic, with access to local residences and businesses maintained.
- Roads marked in blue will remain open but are not designated as part of the official detour routes.
- Roads marked in green will serve as primary detour routes, with additional secondary routes available as needed.
Those traveling near the construction zone are asked use caution and follow all posted traffic control devices, reduced speed limits, and message board guidance.
Funded by the 2016 Transportation Sales Tax referendum, this project is designed to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians. Construction is expected to continue through June 2027.
