Hollings Road will close to vehicular traffic between Daniel Whaley Road and Parkland Preserve Lane beginning Monday, March 16, 2026, as crews install upgraded drainage infrastructure that will deliver critical flood relief to the surrounding area, which is heavily impacted by high tides and heavy rainfall.
The closure is expected to remain in place through May 2026, with overall project completion slated for late Summer 2026.
The intersections of Hollings Road at Fleming Road and Hollings Road at Riverland Drive will remain operational throughout the closure. Residents within the closure limits will retain access throughout construction.
Detours and message boards will be in place to safely guide motorists around the project area while work is underway. As always, drivers are asked to use caution while traveling through the area.
The Hollings Road Drainage Improvements project includes installation of a new drainage box culvert, roadway enhancements along Hollings Road, and improvements to 500 feet of existing drainage canal south of Hollings Road. The new drainage infrastructure will divert stormwater away from smaller, undersized ditches that run parallel to Fleming Road and flood regularly.
When completed, the project will expand the benefits of the recently completed downstream drainage improvements on Central Park Road and the upstream improvements at the City of Charleston’s Roman M. Buck Park, a passive stormwater park facilitated by Charleston County Greenbelt funds.
This project is funded by South Carolina’s FY 2024-2025 General Appropriations Bill and grant funding from the South Carolina Infrastructure Investment Program in the amount of $1.3 million.
