The Summerville Orchestra is offering a free Region IV Orchestra Audition Workshop on Saturday, September 12, 2026, designed to help young musicians prepare for auditions for the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) Region IV Orchestra.
The workshop will take place at Fort Dorchester High School and is open to 6th-12th grade string students throughout Region IV who are interested in strengthening their audition skills, learning what to expect during the audition process, and receiving guidance from experienced music educators and musicians.
The free workshop is part of the Summerville Orchestra’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality music education and creating opportunities for young musicians throughout the Lowcountry and beyond.
“The inspiration for the Region Orchestra Audition Workshop originated as a way to support both the educator and the student,” said DeAnndra Glenn, Director of Youth Programs of the Summerville Orchestra. “Since Region Orchestra is a supplemental program, not all students are required to participate. As a result, school orchestra teachers have limited class time to prepare individual students for these auditions. This workshop will provide students with two hours of coaching from an experienced Summerville Orchestra musician, allowing time to work through all the required scales, etudes and excerpts for the audition.”
The SCMEA Region IV Orchestra provides young musicians with the opportunity to perform challenging orchestral repertoire alongside talented students from across eleven counties in the state. The workshop will give prospective participants an opportunity to prepare for the audition experience in a supportive, educational environment.
