Summerville High School announced the upcoming Summerville STEMfest, a celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, taking place on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, from 11 am to 3:30 pm at the Summerville High School Career and Technology Center located at 102 GreenWave Blvd.
STEMfest is an annual event that originally started as a way to drive interest in STEM education and the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at Summerville High School. Over the years, it has grown into a festival that includes an eSports Lab, robotics demonstrations, teaching tables, and an Engineering-focused competition. This year's theme is "SPACE: One Small Step," focusing on finding solutions to problems in the atmosphere that affect our local community, the United States and/or the world.
Evie Mahaffey, President of the Engineering Club, shared her excitement about the event: "STEMfest is a fun day meant to encourage children to participate in STEM activities and see how interesting math, science, engineering and technology really is. Its about promoting STEM to our future students."
Jeanette Trageser, Engineering Teacher & Engineering Club Sponsor, expressed her pride in the students' efforts: "I’m extremely proud of the club and the work the students have put toward the festival. They have organized an exceptional event and have made a point to include activities that will interest students of all ages as well as our community members."
STEMfest is open to students in grades K-12 and community members. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in engineering competitions, including trebuchet, rube Goldberg, gliders, and more.
