State Sen. Darrell Jackson released the following statement after one Columbia police officer was killed and another was wounded Saturday while investigating a domestic violence dispute:
“I am heartbroken by the tragic shooting in our community that claimed the life of Columbia Police Officer Christopher DeLong and wounded Officer David Dymock.
“Officer DeLong made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to protect others. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, his two young children, his fellow officers and everyone mourning this devastating loss.
“In this hour of profound grief, I pray that God will surround Officer DeLong’s family with His comfort, grant healing and strength to Officer Dymock and bring peace to every heart affected by this tragedy.
“Our community stands with the entire Columbia Police Department and remains profoundly grateful for the courage and sacrifice of those who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.”
