The College of Charleston Arts Management Program’s fourth installment of its speaker series, ARTM Exchange, featuring conversations between artists and arts leaders and faculty, staff, students, and the community, will welcome Mena Mark Hanna, General Director and CEO of Spoleto Festival USA. Hanna will talk about navigating first year organizational leadership and balancing international-level arts programming with local priorities. The event doubles as the opening talk for the Southeastern Arts Leadership Educators conference, also hosted by the Arts Management program. The discussion will take place on Friday, February 17th at 6 pm in Harbor Walk West, 360 Concord St., Room 213. ARTM Exchange events are free and open to students, faculty, staff, and the community. You can learn more about the series here. Hanna is the General Director and CEO of Spoleto Festival USA, where he oversees all aspects of the performing arts festival. Previously, Hanna served as the Founding Dean and Professor of Musicology and Composition at the Barenboim-Said Akademie and the assistant artistic director and dramaturg at Houston Grand Opera. He was formerly the creator and curator of the Edward W. Said Days and served as Trustee of Gingko Library in London. He currently sits on the Board of the Mahler Foundation and on the advisory board of the Time In Children's Arts Initiative in New York. Hanna received a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University and was the recipient of Temple University's inaugural Honors Distinguished Alumni Award. He earned his master's degree in musicology and a D.Phil. in Music Composition and Critical Writing as an Oxford University Marshall Scholar. He has continued executive studies at Harvard's Kennedy School. Hanna was appointed Spoleto Festival USA's General Director in October 2021.
