Charleston County Public Library’s (CCPL) South Carolina Room, located at the Main Library on 68 Calhoun Street, will temporarily close to the public beginning May 1, 2026 as the building prepares for renovation later this year.
The South Carolina Room will be unavailable for approximately eight to 10 weeks during the transition. Services, collections, and in-person research assistance will not be accessible during this time.
The department will reopen to the public in a temporary location at 1248 Camp Road . An official reopening date will be announced at a later time.
The South Carolina Room is CCPL’s primary local history and genealogy research department, preserving and providing access to materials that document the history and people of Charleston County and the state of South Carolina. Its collections include historical documents, maps, photographs, manuscripts, newspapers, and other archival resources that support scholarly research, family history, and community exploration.
This temporary relocation will allow continued preservation of materials while renovations at Main Library are underway. Updates regarding reopening timelines and services will be shared at ccpl.org and through CCPL’s official communication channels.
