Personal finance website WalletHub today released a report on States With the Most Underprivileged Children in 2024 and South Carolina was ranked as having the 12th most in the country. This comes just days after Wallethub ranked South Carolina as being the third worst state in the country to have a baby.
WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key metrics. The data set ranges from the share of children in households with below-poverty income to the share of maltreated children to the rates of child mortality and food insecurity.

- 10th – % of Children in Households with Below-Poverty Income
- 7th – % of Maltreated Children
- 27th – Child Food-Insecurity Rate
- 21st – % of Uninsured Children
- 12th – Infant Mortality Rate
- 7th – % of Children in Single-Parent Familie
