Columbia, S.C. – Supreme Court of South Carolina Chief Justice John W. Kittredge announces effective March 15, 2025, Karama Bailey Herrington will be the next South Carolina State Court Administrator.
Ms. Herrington brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role of state court administrator. “Since I began my tenure as Chief Justice, Karama’s leadership, hard work, and can-do attitude has been impressive,” said Chief Justice Kittredge. “I know she will do an excellent job.”
Ms. Herrington earned her B.A. in Psychology and Human Resources Management from Winthrop University and her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She began working with the South Carolina Judicial Branch in July 2018 as a Deputy Director, and was promoted to Director of Court Services in 2021. In addition to her duties as Director of Court Services, she is also the Interim Director of Information Technology. Before joining the Judicial Branch, Ms. Herrington spent five years at the South Carolina Department of Social Services, where she was the Division Director of County Operations serving as the state administrator of the federal public assistance programs.
Ms. Herrington replaces Interim State Court Administrator Dan Shearouse, who returned to the Judicial Branch at the behest of Chief Justice Kittredge to lead Court Administration. “Dan has been an outstanding state court administrator and has faithfully executed his duties,” said Chief Justice Kittredge. “The entire Court and Judicial Branch thanks him, once again, for his service.” Mr. Shearouse has served as Interim State Court Administrator since August 1, 2024, and is expected to assist Court Administration during the transition period.
