The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded $1.1 million in grants to 119 nonprofit organizations across the state that work to reduce poverty and strengthen communities.
The grantees serve all 46 South Carolina counties, addressing both immediate needs and long-term solutions to break the cycle of poverty.
“At the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, we walk alongside individuals and communities experiencing poverty, as well as the nonprofits that support them — working together to find solutions that will benefit everyone,” said Donna Waites, president of the foundation. “We are grateful to be able to award these grants to organizations seeking innovative ways to build a stronger South Carolina.”
Since its founding in 1996, the foundation has awarded more than $83 million to nonprofits across the state.
“Reducing poverty in South Carolina takes a vast network of people and organizations addressing a wide variety of issues,” said Dr. Lee Pearson, chair of the foundation’s board. “We’re honored to support groups that champion affordable housing, accessible healthcare, food security, economic mobility, and education.”
The foundation also announced a new strategic plan that will take effect in 2026, guiding its grantmaking, advocacy, and other initiatives for the following three years.
