Silfab Solar is releasing the following update regarding its Fort Mill facility:
"On Monday, March 9, 2026, Silfab Solar had assessments completed by the EPA and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (DES) as well as a third-party nationally recognized engineering firm TRC Companies, that supported the decision to bring module and cell assembly production activities back online."
Regarding the hydrofluoric acid (HF) leak, DES released the following statement as confirmed by Silfab:
“A tank containing hydrogen fluoride (HF) is dripping at a rate of one drop per hour, however, the drip is being neutralized and contained using three separate containment measures. Silfab is beginning the process of emptying the HF tank.
"While it is premature to speculate as to timing for restart of production activities requiring chemical deliveries or abatement activities, a precondition to doing so is DES’s comfort and approval by TRC, as an independent third-party firm, validating the safe conditions.
"Silfab is working through system testing and evaluation as part of the remediation process. The company is committed to keeping the community informed during the testing phases as to not cause undue concern or misinformation circulating. Silfab will continue to meet with key stakeholders providing updates accordingly.
"Our top priority continues to be the safety and security of our employees and the community."
