Every 31 minutes, an animal in the U.S. faces some kind of cruelty. Now through midnight on Wednesday, you can help Charleston Animal Society put an end to the suffering. It's all part of the "150 Hours to End Cruelty" campaign.
"In July, two dozen beagles, including one with paralyzed back legs, were rescued. Weeks later, a dog was found alone in a swamp near McClellanville with severe burns down the middle of his back," said Charleston Animal Society Vice President ad Chief Operating Officer Aldwin Roman. "These cases are just two examples of hundreds that your support allows Charleston Animal Society to intervene in and help."
You can join the “150 Hours to End Cruelty” campaign by making a gift and having your donation double, up to $25,000, thanks to the generosity of the Shelly Leeke Law Firm.
"Over the years, I have personally witnessed the amazing work Charleston Animal Society has done to combat animal cruelty across the Lowcountry," said Attorney at Law and Owner, Shelly Leeke of Shelly Leeke Law Firm. "The donations from this campaign will continue to save countless animal lives for years to come."
Donations will be used to:
- investigate cases
- treat countless victims of abuse
- send emergency response teams to cruelty cases
- offer rewards to flush out leads for investigators
- sponsor training seminars for Animal Control Officers.
The Animal Society also provides complementary veterinary forensics, including necropsies, to animal cruelty cases investigated by law enforcement.

ADDITIONAL WAYS TO FIGHT CRUELTY
There are ways each of us can help stop cruelty. If you see something, say something. Animal Control Officers are ready and willing to investigate your concerns, but they need a tip or phone call to get started. If you see an animal in immediate danger, call 911.
Take photos or video of animals you are concerned about. Never trespass on private property and don’t place yourself in danger.
