Ravenel, SC – Sea Island Habitat for Humanity is proud to host its annual Women Build event from March 11- 15, 2025, bringing together women from across the community to construct a home alongside a future homeowner. This initiative highlights the power of women and raises awareness about the need for affordable housing in the Charleston area.
Women Build provides an opportunity for women of all skill levels to gain hands-on experience in home construction while working under the guidance of professionals. Volunteers will take part in essential building activities, including framing, roofing, and painting, all contributing to the completion of a safe, stable, and affordable home. Due to a tremendous response, this event is at capacity for volunteer opportunities bringing nearly 300 volunteers together this week.
"Women Build is more than just constructing houses; it’s about breaking barriers, fostering leadership, and making a tangible impact in our community," said John Rhoden, Executive Director of Sea Island Habitat for Humanity. "We are thrilled to see the dedication and passion of our volunteers as they come together to support a deserving family."
This year’s Women Build home is being built for Joequetta, a hardworking mother to her son and a loving guardian to her niece. Joequetta, who works at T-Mobile, has always dreamed of providing a secure home for her family. Currently living in an apartment that lacks adequate space, she took a bold step in 2023 by joining the Habitat program. Now, thanks to the dedication of Women Build volunteers, she is on the path to homeownership.
"This home means everything to me," said Joequetta. "It’s a dream come true to have a space where my family can grow, thrive, and make lasting memories."
Sea Island Habitat for Humanity extends its deepest gratitude to our Presenting Sponsor, the Dillard Family Foundation, for making this event possible. Special thanks also go to our daily sponsors: Emily Adams State Farm Insurance, the Pulte Group, and Joy Architecture & Interior Design, whose generous support is helping to make Joequetta’s dream a reality.
