COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) will provide live broadcast coverage of memorial events honoring the life and legacy of the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
At the request of Rev. Jackson’s family and numerous state lawmakers, the governor’s office announced that his body will lie in state at the South Carolina Statehouse, allowing members of the public to pay their respects. Gov. Henry McMaster has directed that flags atop the Statehouse be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on March 2 to honor Jackson’s legacy.
A Greenville native and internationally recognized civil rights leader, Jesse Jackson died Feb. 17 at his home in Chicago surrounded by family. He was 84 years of age. He joined the 1965 voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Ala. and later ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988. Throughout his life, he remained active in South Carolina, advocating for equal rights and social justice.
